Children's Hospital Prom

Aloha Prom at Stony Brook Children’s let kids experience an important life event.

It was a special Saturday evening on June 10, 2017, when more than 30 young patients and their guests showed their style at a very exciting gala on the Stony Brook campus — our annual Stony Brook Children’s Prom Night. The theme was Aloha Prom: An Evening in the Tropics, and was held in a huge tent decorated with tiki torches, colorful flowers, Hawaiian and traditional cuisine, party favors, dancing, music and games for everyone to enjoy throughout the evening.

This year’s prom was unique because the young patients themselves were involved in the entire process - from planning the theme, to choosing food, to making décor and clothing recommendations, and more all the way through prom night.

Patients received colorful invitations months before, and were also invited to take part in complimentary night-of-the-prom primping, with hair styling and makeup and nail services.

One of the most wonderful and important benefits from both this and last year’s prom were the friendships that form and continue throughout the year. Kids enjoyed meeting others in similar situations, and spending the evening outside of the hospital setting.

As in the previous year, community support made the prom especially memorable. Numerous donors and volunteers contributed both time and goods to make this year’s even another great success.
