Minimally Invasive Interventions
Stony Brook Children's is the only hospital in Suffolk County that performs minimally invasive surgery on kids of all ages—important because, with the right specialty team in place, less invasive surgery typically results in fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and improved outcomes.

The surgical team uses laparoscopy for abdominal surgeries such as appendectomies and antireflux surgeries, and thoracoscopy for lung surgeries. Minimally invasive surgery employs three to four tiny incisions that generally heal with minimal visible scarring.
