Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro at Stony Brook Children's Hospital

Comfort, care and support for families with seriously ill children.

When families are together, they cope better. This simple idea has inspired the first Ronald McDonald House in Suffolk County. Scheduled to open in 2026, the house will provide a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for families of children who are hospitalized at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.

An Expression of Compassion

The Ronald McDonald House holds a special place in the hearts of all the healthcare professionals at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital because we’ve witnessed firsthand the emotional toll that pediatric illness can take on families. There is nothing more cherished than the opportunity to focus on the care of your child without having to worry about the daily logistics of life.

An Impact Far Beyond the Walls

Currently, families with hospitalized children have found support and a place to unwind in the two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at our Children’s Hospital. A Ronald McDonald House will provide an even greater source of solace. Here, families will be able to receive no-cost housing, respite, meals, and hospitality just across the street from their child’s bedside. As importantly, the 60,000 sq ft Ronald McDonald House will be a place where the families of children who are courageously fighting the most difficult battles are assured they are not alone.

More than a Place to Sleep

While their children receive world-class care at Stony Brook Children's Hospital, families can find a true home away from home at no charge. Inside the new 60,000 square foot center, families will have access to:

  • 30 bedrooms with private bathrooms
  • Fully stocked pantries
  • Complimentary laundry facilities
  • Nightly home-cooked meals
  • Transportation services
  • Pet therapy program
  • Wi-Fi / Fitness Center / Meditation room
