The Dog Named Beef And Her Superpower

A Dog Named Beef

At the age of 16 Charlie was diagnosed with brain cancer, and it was his dog Beef who became his great comfort and inspiration to fight against the disease.

When Charlie successfully overcame his cancer he decided to write a book about his experience with cancer through the eyes of his dog, and support other kids going through a similar tough health journey.

"After two brain surgeries, six weeks of radiation, and six months of chemotherapy in 2021, I wanted to give other kids the comfort that my dog, Beef, gave me. I started writing, The Dog Named Beef And Her Superpower. Today, two years later, I got to bring printed copies of my book to Stony Brook Cancer Center and sign them for current pediatric cancer patients!"

Charlie told Lauren, one of our Certified Child Life Specialists, about his goal and Lauren connected him to an author she knew. Fast forward one year, and Charlie came in for a follow-up visit with his published book. He donated several signed copies to hand out to pediatric cancer patients.
